Okay… so I received this Pet Food Station to review and was a bit disappointed in the fact that we received the LARGE size when we have a dog that weighs all of 12 pounds! This is definitely made for a much bigger dog - we’d have to buy 3-4 bags of food just to fit inside the holder and then because the food pieces are so small for our dog, they would all be falling out! I’m sure, had we received the size closer to what we needed, this product would have been great. It’s easy to get the top off for refilling purposes and easy to clean out the try. I would be happy to give it 5 stars had we received the size we could actually use!

As a dog owner I gave this device a try. I don’t see any value of it for a dog. Sure the dish is a sturdy metal construction and the dog’s dry food can be contained inside the tower portion of the product. However, my dog, like most dogs is a glutton. That is he never knows when he is full and will keep taking food from the tower. I am told cats will only eat enough to satisfy their hunger and will not overeat. Thus, this product should probably only be marketed to cats.

The PetSafe Healthy Pet Food Station borders on defective, in my opinion. One of the key factors to keeping a dog healthy is keeping his food and water bowls clean, since both are breeding grounds for germs. The PetSafe design aims to achieve this with a removable, dishawasher-safe bowl. Bravo. Except the bowl can only be removed easily when the feeder is empty. And if you’re regularly running the feeder empty, then why buy this design at all?
More disturbingly, there is no portion control on this device. It is simply a silo and funnel, which allows your dog to chow down as much as he wants (and if he’s like mine, believe me he wants). In addition to the poor quality construction (mentioned in many other reviews), the open design means whatever room you place this feeder will smell strongly of pet food. All the while the food is getting stale. Bizarre.

Not having any pets of our own, we had the proud (human) mother of two frisky kitties try out the PetSafe Healthy Pet Food Station Food System, and she came back with a glowing report. Unlike other automatic feeders she’s tried, this one has an easy-to-remove stainless steel bowl, making cleaning a cinch. Her previous one had a plastic bowl that quickly got “gunky” all around the edges. The lightweight plastic hopper holds enough kibble to last at least a week, and the slanted construction of the base allows dry food to come out easily without getting clogged. Biggest selling point of all? Those finicky felines took to it immediately without a word (or meow) of protest–a rare occurrence where cats are usually concerned.

I bought the feeder and waterer both for my cats. They’re barn cats-not picky. One doesn’t like, the other refuses to use. I like the idea of stainless but they hate them. They’ve been sitting there for weeks, washed multiple times, etc. Still no go….waste of money…
